- MICHAEL ZIOBROWSKI

Father, Visual Artist and the man behind X Is The Weapon.

HOW DID “X IS THE WEAPON” EVOLVE?

X Is The Weapon was a concept birthed back in ’08. I Lost my job upon returning from an awesome trip to Puerto Rico, I knew EDD would not be enough to pay the bills. So I hustled for as much freelance design work as I could muster.

Always playing with ideas, I was inspired to create a Shirt based of the lyrics to a Jay Electronica song I could not get enough of… after some convincing from friends, and a well timed tweet from the man himself, personally requesting a shirt, I ventured on the journey of selling T-shirts and I needed a name for my “brand”.

This is where X spawned, where it has gone to since, is much more. I gathered like minded creatives, built friendships and explored ideas together, curating art and music shows, doing some gorilla marketing, and creating digitally and on canvas to spread the word and gather more work. This started a movement and has since stayed connected with all my creative endeavors. X Is The Weapon is technically me, but like an amoeba, it constantly shifts and evolves, expanding and contracting, and adapting to the current creative climate.

WHERE DID THIS INITIAL DESIRE TO COLLAGE COME FROM?

I have been into collage from an appreciation stand point, for some time, but I’ say within the last few years, as I was playing with different tools and techniques to create my art; photo transfers, aerosol x stenciling, wheat pasting printed designs and wood working with a Dremel, I organically fell into mixing my mediums and collaging with a combination of Xerox copies, adhesive tapes, and magazine/book clippings.

WHERE DO YOU DRAW MOST OF YOUR INSPIRATION?

My inspiration comes from, music, fashion and the internal need to continually be creative, I’m hungry to succeed as a creative; as a designer, a visual artist and forward thinker. Daily life and my family are at the top of my list as inspiration, I want to be successful enough in doing what I love and have a passion for, to take care of them, show them a quality life; nice home, family travel, and opportunity to experience new and amazing things.

WHAT AIDS IN YOUR DESIGN PROCESS?

Coming from a design background, is foremost. Experience with layouts, color theory, appreciation for different movements in design and art history. All these pieces help me to put together the puzzle that art can become.

WHAT IS NEXT FOR X IS THE WEAPON?

Continued practice with my craft, continued marketing efforts to get my name out in the public eye, sharing my work, and working on more out of state and out of country gallery showings and opportunities. more mural work and opportunity to travel with my art as the catalyst.
